Firstly, sorry to everyone that followed my website in 2024 and wanted to know what happened to the nest.
Just to recap, after many years of no nests I had a pair of Coal Tits use Box 3. Eight eggs were laid and all successfully hatched. Due to commitments I did not post what happened and so I can now update everyone before moving onto the 2025 season.
All eight chicks successfully fledged the nest in May 2024 🙂
Onto the 2025 season……
After being up for nearly 20 years, I was looking to replace Boxes 1 & 2 with new ones, but a pair of Great Tits choose the current Box 1 and a nest has been built, so I will continue with the current setup for another year.
This is the second time a pair of Great Tits have used one of my boxes, however the last nest ended up with the female abandoning the nest after the eggs failed to hatch. Hopefully this time, the nest will be more successful.
The photo below was taken on 30th March 2025, and shows the female Great Tit roosting in her completed nest.
When will the first egg be laid? More in my next diary update.
