On turning on the camera on this morning, I saw the female Coal Tit was still in the nest at around 8am. For most of the day, she remained in the nest, only leaving for a few minutes at times. It looks like incubation has started.
Based on information I have found online, it appears a Coal Tit has the same incubation time as a Blue Tit & Great Tit, which on average is around 14 days. If all goes well, then the first eggs should hatch around the end of April\beginning of May 2024.
I have heard the male Coal Tit calling, but so far I have not seen him feed the female inside the box. I am hoping that when the chicks need feeding he will help.
More in my next diary update.
