The end to the 2009 season has been certinaly differnet to previous seasons. This year we have not seen a winter rooster in October, November or December.

During the Chirstmas break we have been busy preparing the 2010 season version of our website, but also we left the cameras on, incase finally the Blue Tit that has been visiting often would finally enter a box.

What happened this morning was something I was not expecting to see until at least February 2010.

A Blue Tit visited box 1 during the morning. It spent a few minutes inspecting the hole but seemed unsure if it was safe to enter. During the visit it was looking around and as I had the window open I could hear it was calling.

After a few minutes another Blue Tit appeared and flew down to the side of the wall. After seeing two Blue Tit's outside the box I began to wonder if this was a pair?

The Blue Tit inspecting the box then finally entered! whilst the other Blue Tit stayed on the wall.

Inside the box the Blue Tit spent some time checking around. After a few seconds the other Blue Tit appeared at the enterance hole. The bird inside the box then crouched down and the other bird entered. A pair inside one of our boxes already?

Very quickly the first Blue Tit left the box, as the other one entered. After seeing this I think this must be a pair!

After all this I thought that was it for today. However I was wrong and the pair moved on to box 2, and again both birds entered and swapped around..

During the afternoon all visits stopped. Upon checking all three boxes we found no roosters. Hopefully in 2010 we will see this pair return and use one of our boxes.
