9th - 15th November 2009

One box cleaned and more visits

Last weekend I managed to begin the cleanout of our bird boxes. Box 3 has now been cleaned out and is now ready for a new resident.

I had intended to clean out boxes 1 & 2 on Saturday (14th) but our area was hit with gale force winds and very heavy rain, making it not the best weather to climb up a ladder. Hopefully I will be able to clean them next week (weather providing)

During the week the weather has been very mixed. Activity has been quiet, until Sunday (15th). With the horrible weather gone and the winds calmer a Blue Tit made a visit to Box 2, at around 08:00. It did not enter and spent some time just looking around and checking the entrance hole. I have included some photos (sorry about the quality) of the visit.

Around 30 minutes later another visit was recorded, to box 1 this time. The bird decided to check all angles of the box, but again it did not enter. Whilst watching this visit it made me think this bird is checking the box from every possible way it can. Upon checking the boxes tonight we have no roosters.

Will this Blue Tit finally pluck up the courage and enter the box for the first time. We will be keeping an eye on all three of our boxes and will keep you all updated.

The next diary update will be added on Sunday 22nd November.
