In our last diary entry we reported that the female had started to bring in nesting material again, and this was mostly during the afternoon.
We decided to not record from our boxes today, as the forecast was not very good. What a mistake!
When we came home and checked our two boxes, we were shocked. The female, in box 1, had been busy all day and had covered the box floor with moss.
Again tonight we had two roosters.
Nesting seems very early this year and looking back, at this time, in 2006 there was no activity at all. In 2007 the female was thinking about beginning to start nesting
The images below show the difference between 2007 & 2008.

We are a little concerned though, as the nest is progressing very quickly and the Oak trees have not even burst into leaf yet. Will the nest be a success and will the weather slow the female down?
More in our next diary update.
Whilst checking the many bird boxes in our local nature reserve we found one of the Robin boxes has a nest in. A Robin has built a nest, which is nearly complete. Hopefully I will be able to included some photos from time to time in our diary entries. |
