Please no!

Over the last few days the mealworm feeders have been seeing visit after visit. The female is now taking a mealworm to the local tree, preparing it, and taking it back to the nest to feed the chicks.

Today the weather turned very wet with both the male and female getting very wet. The female spent much of the early morning in the nestbox, whilst the male continued to feed.

The mealworm feeder was empty, so I went outside to fill it up with fresh supplies. Whilst doing this I heared this very loud "whoosh" noise. A Sparrowhawk flew across and appeared to catch something. Sadly by the time I could see what it had caught the bird had flown away.

I began to worry that the Sparrowhawk may have just caught either the male or female Blue Tit from our nestbox. Worried I sat watching the nestbox for over two hours. During the time I was watching we say no visits from the female. The male continued to feed.

Did the female get caught by the Sparrowhawk?

We are now off for a weeks holiday. We have left a timer on to record the box over the week. Will the nest be doomed?

Will the chicks fledge successfully?

More in our next diary entry.
