On 14th March we reported that the female had started to bring in little bits of moss and nesting material. Most of this was removed the same day, but on Saturday the female decided to remove all of it, that was left.
Sunday started mainly cloudy. During the morning we saw around three House Sparrows near our boxes and saw both the male and female Blue Tits trying to drive the sparrows away from their box. After lunchtime the weather turned very wet and windy and this is not the best weather to build a nest in.
The weather certainly had a knock on the number of visits being made and only five visits were recorded the whole day. In the end we deceided to turn off the cameras for the day, at around 13:00, as the weather was not improving.
When we checked to see if our resident rooster had returned safely we were shocked to discover some fresh nesting material had been brought in. How the female decided to find some more nesting material, in the most horrible weather for a few days, I do not know. The material was mainly grass.
We are going to be leaving the cameras recording on Monday from 08:00 - 14:00. Hopefully we will capture some video/footage of the female bringing in some more nesting material.
The weather for Easter is looking cold with snow. Will this stop the female nest building?
More in our next diary update.
