14th May 2008 - Part 2 of 2

Hatching

Early today two of the ten eggs hatched. Finally after going through all the video (11 hours!) we found that the total of eggs hatched, by around 19:00 was five.

Both the male and female have been feeding the chicks, during the day, and some impressive number of visits were counted and recorded. We will take some video clips from this and add them to the website asap.

The female safely returned and roosted for the night, keeping her new born chicks warm, at around 20:10.

Whilst the female was roosting the male did a very late last feed at 20:20. He then left the female and the chicks for the night. We thought he might roost in the other box, but upon checking it was empty.

The weather is now meant to turn cooler with rain or thunderstorms, in our area. Will this have an effect on the feeding?

More in our next diary entry.
