February 2006 Diary

18th February

The weather was very spring like on Saturday and visits to the box were very high. A total of 20 visits were made in just 10 minutes. Our usual Blue Tit entered box 1 for a few seconds and then left. Then a new visitor arrived. It spent some time just sitting on the perch outside the boxes, and after five minutes flew off. Our Blue Tit then came back and went back into box 1. It did not stay long and left after 20 seconds. Two minutes later our new visitor returned. It then spent the next ten minutes jumping from one box to another. Finally, after a lot of pecking of the enterance hole, it entered box 1.

This bird looks very different to our Blue Tit with its blue feathers. They are very bright, as can be seen in the photo. The new visitor looked around the box for a few seconds and then left. Is this bird a female? We have included a video clip of "The New Visitor". Please visit our "Videos" section.
