Firstly sorry for the delay in adding these diary entries, let's catch up now:
On 10th February we saw something visit box 3 for the first time. Today we left the cameras running and recording, in the hope we would find out what was visiting box 3. We did not have to wait long and a Blue Tit visited the front of the box, within minutes of us turning on the cameras.
A total of 10 visits were made to front of the box (box 3), but no entries were made inside. The bird visiting looked very simular to the female from last year, but how can we tell as Blue Tit's all look the same. On three of the visits the bird decided to attack the outside camera, possibly as it saw it's own reflection? The bird was not harmed and the camera is still working!
Meanwhile Box 1 saw a impressive 20 visits during the morning and the female Blue Tit performed a number of nesting wiggles.
In the afternoon visits continued to both boxes and finally a Blue Tit entered box 3. During the visit the bird performed a nesting wiggle and cleaned out some of the old moss. So do we have two pairs of Blue Tits this year. At the moment it is difficult to tell, but hopefully as the season goes on we will be able to work it out.
Our next diary update will be on 20th February. |
