Tiny bits of nesting material!

In our last diary update we mentioned that visits had started to increase and that we were looking out for the first sign of nesting material coming in.

Upon checking our three boxes tonight, we have been shocked. They must of heared us or read our diary entries :)

Inside box 1 we saw/found tiny bits of moss, fine hair and grass on the box floor. It appears the female visiting this box has decided that box 1 is her's this year. Blue Tit's are known to bring in little bits of nesting materail first and then normally they take it all out again! Hopefully the female will not build her nest just yet, as the Oak trees in our area are at least 3 weeks away from coming into leaf. Should I worry, as they know best!

Box 3 is still seeing a number of visits with a pair trying to clean the old bits of stuck moss from the box floor. So far no nesting material has been brought into this box, and the box has not been used to roost in.

More in our next diary update, on 14th March.
