Five of the chicks fledged on Sunday 24th May. The last three fledged on Monday 25th May.
The promised diary update has now been added with photos and a video of all the chicks leaving the nest
In Spring 2008 we had another pair of Blue Tits use one of our bird boxes. The pair successfully managed to build a nest and a total of ten eggs were laid.
Nine eggs successfully hatched but sadly the female was lost to a predator just before the chicks fledged. It was not all sad and the male managed to get six chicks through on his own with four chicks managing to leave the nest.
On 25th September 2008 we had our first rooster of the autumn, and the bird returned each night up to Monday 12th January 2009, when it never returned.
In December 2008 another box was added (Box 3).
in 2009 we had one nesting Blue Tit using box 3, whilst the other boxes remain empty.
The nest in Box 3 was completed in April and Eve (the female) roosted each night in her box, from 13th April. Egg laying started on 15th April and nine eggs were laid in total. Incubation started on 24th April and the first eggs hatched on 5th May. Eight chicks successfully fledged on 24th & 25th May.
This website allows you to read the continuing unfolding story. The diary pages document all the highs & lows through out the season.
We now have six cameras located inside and outside the boxes, monitoring the birds and our boxes.
