The 2008 Season - Fledged and Looses Welcome to Bird in the Nest for 2008! In 2007 we had a pair of Blue Tits use one of our Blue Tit boxes. The pair successfully managed to build a nest and bring three chicks through. The hope was that a pair choose to use one of our boxes again this year, and they have. Since October we have seen a Blue Tit using one of our boxes as a winter roost. Sometimes we even have two roosters. From 13th March the female started bringing in the odd bit of nesting material, and the nest was completed in three weeks, being built earlier this year! The first egg was laid on 23rd April and the last (10th) on 2nd May. Incubation started on 2nd May and nine chicks were being fed. Sadly on 25th May the female was killed by a Sparrowhawk. The male managed to get four chicks successfully out of the box by 3rd June. This website allows you to read unfolding story. The diary pages document all the highs & lows through out the season. We had cameras located inside and outside the boxes, monitoring the birds. To browse our website please use the menu, located on the left. Thanks for stopping by and we hope you enjoy your visit. We will be back in late August/early September when we begin looking for a winter rooster. Website last updated on 4th June 2008 at 21:00
